3 April 2019

BNG Bank's seven-year €750 million sustainability bond, issued in November 2018, has been awarded Sustainability bond of the year by the leading magazine 'Environmental Finance'.

The proceeds of the bond are used to finance or refinance loans to Dutch municipalities with the highest sustainability ratings. With a total raised from sustainability bonds to more than $3.6 billion, BNG Banks is the second biggest issuer after the German state of North Rhine Westphalia, according to Environmental Finance.

In addition, since 2015, the bank has issued three social housing bonds and two green bonds, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to using the debt market to advance its environmental and social ambitions. In total, BNG bank has issued sustainable bonds worth EUR 5.3 billion in total since 2014.

'The success of this awarded transaction demonstrates BNG Bank's commitment and position within international capital markets, whilst the diversification and quality of the orderbook outlines the comprehensive investor work by the institution,' said one banker involved in the deal.
