Building Breda

Financing from BNG Bank has allowed Building Breda to roll out a ten-year programme of eight buildings and solar power plants.

In 2007, all secondary schools in the Breda municipality agreed to collaborate on educational housing and reform. Improving the image of vocational education, creating a barrier-free connection between preparatory secondary vocational education (VMBO) and senior secondary vocational education (MBO) and ensuring a comprehensive care structure were key themes, and the agreements were set out in a master plan. To achieve the goals of the master plan, the Building Breda cooperative was formed. The competent authority of every secondary school in Breda is a member of the cooperative. The cooperative is the owner of all buildings and the associated land. Agreements have been signed with the Breda municipality about the annual allowance (part of the payment from the municipal funds) and associated conditions.

Strategic school building plan

The basic principle for the schools is that the basic facilities for a school building must be provided. That forms a solid foundation for continuing to build a rich variety of education in Breda, with different unique touches for each school.Polaroid pictures with impressions of the buildings

Within ten years, Building Breda aims to:

  • Get all schools in order, both technically and functionally;
  • Use emergency classrooms only to compensate for a temporary peak in student numbers;
  • Provide sufficient sporting facilities;
  • Adapt building facilities to accommodate disabled persons and provide sufficient facilities to ensure safety, including social safety.

To strengthen this rich variety of educational facilities, a decision was made to highlight and further develop education in relation to the themes of sport and movement, design and technology, innovative education, internationalisation, school and environment, and gifted children.
