Together we make more impact

BNG Bank is of and for the public sector, for us it is not about maximising profit but about maximising social impact. That is our motivation and we do so by financing our clients' social issues. Think about building new rental housing or making existing real estate more sustainable. But also improving air quality and reducing CO2 emissions.

Focus on social impact

In 2020, we translated this motivation into our purpose: 'Driven by social impact'. In doing so, we expressed the ambition to make 10% more social impact in 2023 than in 2021.
To demonstrate our impact, we were one of the first financial institutions to start measuring and reporting on this in 2021.

This measurement takes place using a set of quantifiable indicators linked to five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that align with our client portfolio. Reporting takes place annually on our website.

Methodology

To keep better track of the impact we enable, we created a methodology to measure and further enhance the social outcomes created by our financing activities. Our methodology uses the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a reference – specifically the five SDGs listed below, where we can create most impact via our clients. We are one of the first financial institutions in the Netherlands to do this. As this is new and we stand to learn a great deal from it, we acknowledge that we may need to fine-tune our methodology along the way.

Results impact measurement 2022

The 2022 impact measurement shows that BNG Bank, through our customers, has shown an impact growth of more than 9% compared to 2020. We are very pleased with this result. BNG Bank will continue to build on the demonstrability of its impact in 2024. In doing so, we will use the insights from the impact measurement in the period 2021 - 2023.

Results of second measurement

The purpose of BNG Bank is to make social impact. We measure our social impact on the basis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) shown below, which match our client groups. The social effects that BNG Bank aims for have been defined on the basis on these SDGs. Each of these social effect is quantified by measuring them against a number of available indicators.
