Hart van Zuid is in the heart of South Rotterdam, between the residential neighbourhoods of Carnisse, Tarwewijk and Zuiderpark and centred on the Zuidplein shopping mall. Financing from BNG Bank was signed off in late April and the Ballast Nedam/Heijmans consortium, supported by 3i Infrastructure, started construction on Hart van Zuid. Under the direction of the municipality of Rotterdam, the partners will be refurbishing and upgrading the area around Zuidplein and Ahoy.

EXPANSION IN AND AROUND AHOY

As part of the development Rotterdam Ahoy is undergoing a significant expansion with an international convention centre, music hall, cinema and hotel. The low-traffic area of De Gooilandsingel will be the link connecting Ahoy to Hart van Zuid. The Zuidplein shopping mall will also be renovated and made more accessible.

The new Charlois Olympic swimming pool will be integrated into the borough's administrative building. The project will also result in much better and more user-friendly public transport connections for the area; for instance, the metro and bus hub is being upgraded.
