Adegeest residential care centre

28 April 2017 - Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), Good health and well-being (SDG 3)

In attractive green surroundings near the centre of Voorschoten you can find the stylish Adegeest complex, which opened in 2015.

The Adegeest residential care facility has 34 inpatient places for geriatric psychiatry, 18 places for people with a need for complex somatic care, and 41 luxury rental apartments for people requiring home care. The Adegeest residential care facility in Voorschoten boasts a welcome centre, a bright conservatory where concerts are held, a restaurant with a lovely ambiance, a hair salon, a shop, a daytime activity centre, a day treatment clinic, and the home care operations base of the healthcare institution Florence, the owner of Adegeest.

Activities and facilities for the neighbourhood

It is not only residents of Adegeest who use the facilities; they're open to the whole neighbourhood. Anyone can dine in the restaurant, receive treatment at the day clinic or take part in the daytime activities that are organise. Florence hopes that providing healthcare and other services at Adegeest will support the self-sufficiency of local residents.

The Adegeest Residential Care Centre is close to the historic centre of beautiful Voorschoten, with its wide range of shops, restaurants and cafés. The residential care facility was built in a lovely, peaceful green setting, perfect for a relaxing stroll.

BNG Bank provided 13.3 million euros of financing to the Florence healthcare institution, the owner of Adegeest. A total of 19 million euros has been invested in the complex.

Sustainable

The building was designed to use as many sustainable materials as possible (such as brick and zinc) and features sustainable detailing (dry façades and aluminium window frames) to keep maintenance costs as low as possible. Attention was also given to enabling all units to be transformed from their current residential care functions to independent residential units ('second life' concept). A thermal energy storage system was used for heating.
