Swetterhage residential and activity centre

06 January 2017 - Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), Good health and well-being (SDG 3)

Swetterhage is situated in Zwetpolder in Zoeterwoude-Dorp. It is a residential and community complex where more than 300 people with intellectual disabilities live, work and spend leisure time.

The residents receive care and support from 500 employees and 245 volunteers. BNG Bank provided 32.5 million euros of financing out of a total investment of 57 million euros.

The site contains 42 homes and three activity centres, along with two support services that handle matters such as administration, laundry and cleaning, meals and internal transport.

Phases

A significant portion of Swetterhage has been renovated in recent years. The work was done in several phases: 1a, 1b and Phase 2. Phase 3 is the final phase, in which six new homes are being built, each with space for nine residents. A new day care centre is also being built with capacity for eighty day care places. This building will be built to a design by the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The clients receive care and support from 500 employees and 245 volunteers.
